Kaitlyn Hallem, a senior from Lincoln High School, has her eyes set on being a veterinary technician. Kaitlyn enrolled in our Small Animal Science class this fall and plans to be in Large Animal Science in the spring semester. Our outstanding Agriculture student has an aptitude for working with animals and she also has some great people skills that will only boost her career aspirations. Her teacher, Mr. Jensen, has said that Kaitlyn comes to class ready to learn, is always ready to lend a hand to her peers and asks great questions. Our Lincoln Patriot plans to attend Southeast Technical College next year and pursue a degree as a veterinarian technician. Kaitlyn, we think your willingness to learn and your willingness to engage with your peers means career success! Congratulations – you are a winner of CTE’s “See the Vision” award!

“I plan to use my CTE experiences in college animal science courses and in my future career working with animals.” Those are the words of Abbie Johnson, a senior from Jefferson High School. Her teacher, Mr. Jensen says, “Abbie Johnson has a passion for animal science!” Out talented Cavalier brings great questions and a smile to class every day. Abbie makes students feel welcomed to class. She gives constructive comments to help her peers to become better at what they do. Her classmates report that she is helpful when they have questions about assignments and projects. Other students report that they enjoy her sense of humor and her enthusiasm for class and labs. Abbie, we know you are interested in pursuing a degree in Biology or a Pre-Vet and we also know that you bring the promise of great effort and a great attitude! Congratulations – You are a “See the Vision” award winner!

SFSD schools start 2-hrs late Thursday, January 5, 2023.

Due to the amount of snow that fell with this winter storm and the time it will take for plows to get into residential neighborhoods, there will be No School, no practices and no activities tomorrow – Wednesday, January 4, 2023. District and school offices will be open.

In addition to there being NO SCHOOL today, an update now includes that SFSD Offices will also be closed on Tuesday, Jan 3, 2023.

We have a new “first” at the CTE Academy. This is the first time we have given two students a “See the Vision” award at the same time. Meet Claire and Bailey Buskohl. Claire Buskohl is a sophomore at Jefferson High School and Bailey Buskohl is a junior at Jefferson High School. The students are cousins, good friends, in Intro to Audio/Video Technology this fall semester and plan to be in Digital Animation this spring semester. Their teacher, Mr. Hoffman, says the cousins make a great team because they both put a great amount of effort into their media projects. Both students are creative, focused, positive and bring a constructive attitude to class every day. Bailey likes the CTE Media program because “it provides high quality software with creative freedom” and Claire plans to use her CTE experience “to help get involved in digital media.” Mr. Hoffman says, “I appreciate their efforts!” Bailey and Claire, we are not sure where your creative skills will take your careers, but we do know you both work hard and bring a great attitude to your CTE class. Those two characteristics will make the two of you - a dual of achievement!

Wishing everyone a safe, healthy, and happy holiday season! There will be no school from Thursday, December 22-Monday, January 2. We look forward to seeing everyone again on Tuesday, January 3, 2023!

Connor Davis is a senior from Jefferson High School and is our next “See the Vision” winner at the CTE Academy. Connor has become involved with our Academy of Finance and he is taking Accounting I this fall semester and Introduction to Financial/Banking Services in the spring semester. Connor brings some successful traits to our AOF Program in unique combinations. His teacher Mrs. Brunken says, “Connor has shown the ability and the aptitude to be a future business leader in our community.” The teacher says that Connor has a skill for analyzing numbers to make the better decisions for business management and the best decisions to make money. Connor is effective and efficient when working on accounting simulations and with his classmates. Connor, we look forward to hearing about the successful combination of these attributes in your future! Congratulations!

A huge thank you to Cheyenne Edmundson from SDSU who visited with culinary students about dairy and food science. 100% job placement, close to home, and there’s scholarship money available. SDSU has a 10:1 student to teacher ratio, internship possibilities with a wide variety of companies, and Cheyenne brought SDSU ice cream!!!! CTE loves giving students knowledge about career opportunities connected to food beyond working directly in the kitchen as a chef. 💙🐰💛#sdsujackrabbits #sfcteacademy #dairyscience @sdstate_dairyandfoodscience

Ashlyn Hora is a sophomore from Washington High School and is taking Digital Music Production at the CTE Academy. We see a lot of potential in this young lady but we also see a student using her skills to be involved in her school and her community. Ashlyn has a simple, direct philosophy – “I just want to share my talents with the world.” Our “See the Vision” winner shares her talents by playing in the Washington High School Orchestra and Jazz Band. Ashlyn also plays in her church youth worship band. Most students in Digital Music are creative but not always a musician. Ashlyn can work and collaborate in both roles. She plays the cello, guitar and the base guitar. Our winner says she want to make her own music or be involved in producing music some day. Her teacher, Mrs. Mehlert, says it is wonderful to have Ashlyn in class because she works hard to make her projects sound appealing. To top it off Mrs. Mehlert explained that Ashlyn is a team player, “Ashlyn does a wonderful job of supporting her peers in their musical journeys and is always willing to lend a hand or give feedback to other students.” Ashlyn, we are not sure where life will take you but you have the creativity, musical and people skills to go places! Congratulations on being a “See the Vision” winner!

Networking and fostering relationships are important in business. Thank you to Sara, Amy, Corey, & Aaron for the CPA Society presentation to the Academy of Finance classes

“She definitely shows a passion for learning and puts true effort in what she does at the CTE Academy.” Those are the words of Mrs. Mushaney about her student, Isabella Krunitzky, a sophomore from Lincoln High School, who is enrolled in Bio Med and Integrated English/Speech at the CTE Academy. Isabella Krunitzky is our next “See the Vision” winner because in her Integrated Speech class she is willing to look for ways to improve, implements advice and is counted on to give positive feedback and friendly smiles to her peers. Isabella said it best, “Taking Speech (at the CTE Academy) has given me new opportunities for classes that interest me and more confidence in my ability to speak and present in front of audiences.” Isabella plans to use CTE as a stepping stone to gain more knowledge about the field of medicine. Isabella, we say – that is exactly what we (the CTE Academy) want to be – a stepping stone into great educational opportunities for you in healthcare!
