SFSD sends a HUGE Thank You to our School Resource Officers from the SF Police Department! SROs establish relationships with students and staff to keep schools safe!

Luxxana Salinas enrolled in Health Careers at the CTE Academy because she wanted to learn more about various medical fields. The senior from Lincoln High School says she will soon “take the opportunity” to be involved in a ten-week internship at Avera Hospital and at a nursing home. Our “See the Vision” winner has established a proven track record of responsibility, kindness and trustworthiness. “Luxxana is one of the most responsible students I have ever had!” Those are the words of Mrs. Kennedy, Luxxana’s Health Careers Teacher. Her teacher went on to say that Luxxana makes no excuses, is dedicated to learning, is trustworthy, is a great classmate and approaches people and tasks with a gentle quietness. Luxxana, we think you will flourish in your ten-week internship and your patients and the health organizations will only benefit from your notable attitude and efforts. Mrs. Kennedy added, “She is a joy to teach!” Ten weeks of internship or ten years of health care – Luxxana, we think that quiet approach and that uplifting spirit of yours will only add value to the lives you touch!

Every day is a GREAT day in SFSD classrooms! Thursday was extra special as Supt. Stavem and Board Member Marc Murren surprised six educators by naming them finalists for the Dr. John W. Harris Teacher of the Year Award! Please join us in congratulating these amazing educators!

"Quick” could be one of the words used describe our next “See the Vision” winner. Niyongabo Yohana is a senior from Jefferson High School. We call our talented student his nickname “Gabo”. Our Cavalier took Hardware and Software in the fall semester and now he is taking Networking Technologies in the spring semester at the CTE Cyber Academy. Gabo is a quick learner in the classroom, he can make a very quick diagnosis on an ailing electronic device and he can make all the moves of a very quick running back on the state champion Jefferson Cavaliers football team. His teacher, Mr. Brockmueller, will vouch for his student. “Gabo understands the mission of the CTE Academy and is learning so much so quickly. He is turning his tech-savvy skills into a nice side business!” Gabo has quickly entered the world of entrepreneurship since his start as a CTE student by establishing his own repair business of electronic devices. Phones, computers and Xbox gaming systems – Gabo can fix them! Gabo is on his way to Dakota State University in Madison next year to major in Business Technology and play football. Congratulations, Niyongabo Yohana! You are a winner of CTE’s “See the Vision” award!

Zachary Heinemann is a senior from Washington High School. He entered the CTE Academy in August with an interest in aviation but he did not know if he wanted to pursue a career in aviation. Fast forward to January 2023 – Zachary Heineman is now on his way to the University of North Dakota Aerospace Science Program or to the Lift Academy Flight School in Indianapolis. After taking Aviation I and now Aviation II, our Washington Warrior has choices but his mind is made up. Zach wrote, “This class made me realize that aviation is what I want. I really enjoy being surrounded by peers with the same interests and the opportunity to talk to people in the aviation industry.” Mrs. Mehlert, Zach’s Aviation Teacher said, “Zach is a like a sponge. He is quick to learn the content, has determination and is kind to all his classmates.” Zach – whether it is UND in Grand Forks, North Dakota or Lift Academy in Indianapolis, Indiana – we know that your aptitude, determination and care for people will make for a career that will take you to great heights! “I like to apply the things we learn to projects and I like using the flight simulators.” Those are the words of Savannah Woods, a sophomore from Roosevelt High School. Savannah spent part of her fall semester at the CTE Academy taking Aviation I. What we learned about this Rough Rider is that this girl has goals and her teacher, Mrs. Mehlert, will attest and affirm her student’s determination. The teacher said, “Savannah is an incredibly hard worker who knows where she wants to go in life!” There is no doubt that Savannah is definitive and resolute with her goals – “I plan to go to flight school and then study aerospace or mechanical engineering.” Mrs. Mehlert added, “She is always willing to help her peers in Aviation.” Savannah was award her “See the Vision” award at Roosevelt High School not only because of her academic achievement and determination but also because of her willingness to be a wonderful classmate. Joining Savannah in recognition of her “See the Vision” award are two Roosevelt HS Administrators – Mrs. Katie Heavlin and Mr. Lance Luitjens. Congratulations, Savannah!
