Last day of school reminders!

Classroom 101 had a great time on their field trip to GreatLIFE Suburban Lanes Family Fun Center! Students practiced teamwork, good sportsmanship, and cheering each other on while learning the basics of bowling.

University of South Dakota (USD) School of Health Sciences hosted a “Career Café” for 5th grade students. Students learned about different careers such as dental hygiene, physical therapy, laboratory science, public health, and nursing. A HUGE thank you to USD School of Health Sciences for volunteering your time to educate the next generation in health sciences!

Our “Lost & Found” is overflowing! To look for lost items, please check in at the office. The last day to look for lost items is Friday, May 22. Items not claimed will be donated.

Congratulations to Mrs. Carrie Thurman, kindergarten teacher, who received a sweet treat from the Sioux Falls Public Schools Education Foundation (Foundation)! Every year during Teacher Appreciation Week, the Foundation surprises educators with treats from “Oh My Cupcakes”. Teachers were nominated via social media.

Classroom K04 learned about the life cycle of robins and butterflies. After the lesson, students created colorful artwork inspired by what they had learned.







Prairie West Library is closing at NOON tomorrow, Friday, May 1. If your student normally goes there after school, you will need to make other arrangements. As a reminder, all students must be picked up by 3:00 pm.

Student Council took part in Earth Day by picking up garbage around the school. They filled up 10 bags of trash! Thank you, Student Council, for taking care of Discovery!

Classroom 303 enjoyed a well-deserved break in between state testing. Students got the chance to relax, recharge, and have fun with their classmates!

Classroom 302 celebrated Earth Day on Wednesday by enjoying the outdoors and drawing with chalk!




Since classroom 506 is in the middle of testing season, all the educational materials hanging in the classroom are covered up or taken down. Students decided to brighten up the classroom with coloring pages! After a test, students can pick a coloring page, color it, and hang it up.




Today through Thursday, April 23, is Discovery Dine Out at Chili’s during their regular business hours. Discovery's PTO earns 15% of all carry out and dine in orders. You must mention Discovery Elementary when ordering or show the attached the flyer. Our PTO appreciates your support!

Two scientists with the Sanford Research PROMISE Laboratory visited first grade classrooms last week. Students learned about DNA, and its purpose in living things. Students got hands on by extracting the DNA from strawberries. Check out some of our future scientists from classroom 104!
