Our welding class is learning the art of welding while staying safe and strapped in! Students are not only mastering welding techniques but also understanding the importance of using harnesses to prevent accidents. Safety first, always!
The Nonstructural Repair and Auto Body Refining classes are revving up their projects! From restoring a dirt bike to giving a Power Wheels Jeep a fresh coat of paint, these students are flexing their automotive skills and learning about everything from refinishing car rims to performing bodywork. It’s a hands-on adventure that’s sure to get their wheels turning!

The Career Fair is a great opportunity for students and families to explore various career paths and learn about opportunities such as employment, job shadowing, apprenticeships, and internships.

Let's meet our CTE Principal Mr. Josh Hall
I have had the privilege of serving the Sioux Falls School District for 15 years in various administrative roles. Prior to my current position as Principal of the CTE Academy iI served the SFSD as Assistant Superintendent, Middle School Principal, Middle School Immersion Center Principal, and Middle School Assistant Principal.
When I’m not immersed in the world of education, I enjoy golfing, traveling, and cheering on my children at their extracurricular activities.
My primary goal for our students is to see them graduate high school with a clear career path in mind. I believe the CTE Academy is the ideal place for students to discover their passions and explore how they align with potential career pathways.
My advice to students is simple: Come visit the CTE Academy and take a class!
The Small Animal Science program is excited to announce the arrival of Bella and her seven adorable kittens! These furry friends will be joining our classroom for an eight-week stay as part of a fostering partnership with the local Humane Society.
During their time with us, Bella and her litter will receive plenty of socialization and attention to help them gain weight and prepare for adoption. Our goal is to provide them with a loving and nurturing environment so that they're ready to find their forever homes.
Before returning to the Humane Society, Bella will be spayed and receive all necessary vaccinations. Her kittens will be approximately 8-10 weeks old when they're available for adoption in December.
Our Culinary students turned the kitchen into a salad-making battlefield! They had to 'romaine' calm and put their skills to the test by designing, prepping, and presenting salads of their own creations. The results were amazing! We're hungry for more!
Attention students and families! No school on Monday and Tuesday, October 14th and 15th! Enjoy the extra time off and we'll see you back in class on Wednesday, October 16th!
Show your support for breast cancer awareness by joining us in wearing pink every Friday throughout October. Our CTE staff will proudly don pink attire to raise awareness and show solidarity with those affected by this disease.
Our Carpentry students have been making significant progress on the Habitat for Humanity house! Their hard work and dedication are truly commendable. Stay tuned for more updates as they continue to build this home from the ground up!
Our Robotics students are exploring the exciting world of design, automation, and machine control. They're putting their skills to the test by building robots capable of performing a variety of tasks and completing specific objectives. Through this hands-on experience, students are gaining valuable insights into the principles of robotics and the potential applications of this technology
Our Aviation 1 students have been taking a fascinating journey through early flight history by designing, building, and testing their own tissue paper hot air balloons. The results were nothing short of spectacular, with some balloons soaring nearly to the ceiling of the hallway while others faced challenges with lift. The students also showcased their creativity with some truly unique designs. Well done, Aviation 1! You've reached for the skies and soared above expectations!

Our Health Careers students explored the importance of effective communication and teamwork this week. To simulate real-world challenges, they were tasked with constructing skeletons using marshmallows and spaghetti noodles while facing various physical impairments, such as vision loss, lack of hands, or hearing impairment. The students demonstrated impressive creativity and problem-solving skills as they navigated these communication barriers.
Our Engineering students are putting their skills to the test by applying the engineering design process to create a bean bag carnival game. This project provides a hands-on opportunity to experience the entire lifecycle of engineering, from ideation to prototyping and testing. By following the engineering design process, students are learning valuable skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork, while also having fun creating a unique and engaging game.
The Academy of Finance kicked off the school year with an exciting field trip to First Premier Bank. Our students were hosted by Jay Salonen, an Investment Banker and AOF Advisory Board Member, and accompanied by Kellen Foltz, a Financial Advisor and AOF WHS Alumni 2018.
During the visit, students gained valuable insights into the operations of First Premier Bank, a privately owned bank with a single shareholder, T. Denny Sanford. They learned about the distinctions between community and corporate banking and discovered that the bank boasts the second-largest TV in South Dakota.
The presenters emphasized the essential role banks play in supporting economic development and growth by providing loans to both consumers and the community. They highlighted the opportunities and jobs created through these initiatives, underscoring the bank's mission as a "Dream Maker."
Guest presenters offered students valuable advice, emphasizing the importance of pride in their work, a willingness to learn, a positive attitude, and confidence. They also highlighted the diverse range of personalities needed in the banking industry, recognizing the value of both extraverts and introverts.
The field trip provided students with a firsthand look at the banking industry, demonstrating that both two-year and four-year degrees are acceptable for pursuing a career in finance. What a great learning experience for our students!

Our Computer Hardware students are delving into the intricacies of computer assembly. They've been exploring how motherboards serve as the backbone of a PC. To solidify their understanding, they've completely disassembled and reassembled computers, even upgrading them with new drives. This hands-on experience is invaluable in building a strong foundation in computer hardware.
All 49 Baking and Pastries students at the CTE Academy have successfully achieved ServSafe Food Handler certification. This nationally recognized certification, offered by the National Restaurant Association, demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of food safety and sanitation. We congratulate our students on this accomplishment, which will undoubtedly benefit their future careers in the culinary industry. The ServSafe Food Handler certification is valid for three years. Way to go!
The Aviation 3 class embarked on a fascinating field trip to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls. They gained valuable insights into the world of meteorology, learning about weather models, the creation of TAFs, and much more. This enriching experience provided our students with a deeper understanding of the crucial role of weather forecasting in aviation.
